Why Some People Have Energy and Some Don’t https://www.askdrwiletha.com/why-some-people-have-energy-and-some-dont/ https://www.askdrwiletha.com/why-some-people-have-energy-and-some-dont/#respond Mon, 01 Feb 2016 02:16:01 +0000 http://www.askdrwiletha.com/?p=12863 Do you ever wonder why some people always seem to have energy and stamina while others always seem plagued by fatigue and tiredness? Well, I have a theory to explain this differential. It involves several facets to include diet, attitude, mobility level and support system. It is a well-known that the company you keep can have a profound effect on your own life. We tend to maintain the same level of energy as our closest associates. So be warned surround yourself with energetic individuals who have purposeful activities on the schedule. You will not want to be left out, therefore your subconscious will undoubtedly propel you in the direction of a higher level of activity. That being said we still have to consider the fact that your body must have the proper fuel to run on. This brings us to the subject of diet and nutrition. There are some very basic needs that must be met in order for your body to provide you with that get up and go that you so desire.

First, there are over 90 nutrients needed on a daily basis. Now to obtain these you must embrace a diet that contains a wide variety of foods without a lot of useless empty calories. Remember: sugar is not a nutrient and though tasty and satisfying, it lack any value on your path to obtain optimal nutrition. Cutting out every bit of added sugar could be a giant step in fueling your body to produce a high level of energy.

Another key to energy is water. Drinking the proper amount of water to maintain hydration is essential for energy. At first glance you want to just end the day or start the day with a huge gulp of water but this will not sustain the type of energy you are seeking. Your body can process about 4 ounces of water per hour just to maintain the status quo. So if you are active and perspiring you will require even more.

Our bodies are in a constant state of using nutrients and creating waste products in the process. It is necessary for these waste products to have an avenue to exit the body. It is going to be the skin via perspiration, the bowels or the bladder and preferably all three are involved. Certain wastes can only exit though one of these so you need to make sure all three are working optimally. My 96-year-old Mom used to say, “You have to sweat every day to stay healthy.” This theory was a part of that old fashioned folk wisdom but none the less it is spot on for achieving our desire of endless energy.

The next point I want to make is about daily routines. Of course we all have routines but the key is to be able to establish the right routines and stick to it. I recommend making a few changes at a time and just commit yourself to 90 days to try it out. This way you will not feel deprived or feel that life as you know it has ended. Just because we are avoiding sweets for this period of time, it does not mean we will never eat cake again. Stay tuned for more on energy in a future post.

Ever wondered why detox and cleansing is so highly regarded? https://www.askdrwiletha.com/ever-wondered-why-detox-and-cleansing-is-so-highly-regarded/ https://www.askdrwiletha.com/ever-wondered-why-detox-and-cleansing-is-so-highly-regarded/#respond Sat, 09 Jan 2016 02:17:59 +0000 http://www.askdrwiletha.com/?p=12851 Have you ever wondered why detox and cleansing is so highly regarded? You will be surprised to learn that detox, cleansing and other purification rituals abound in every culture. These rituals may include a spiritual as well as a physical component. Man has throughout recorded history felt a certain need to cleanse or purify ourselves and to somehow make a new start. These rituals are a varied as the people who practice them but they have one thing in common. That is the desire to rid our body and mind of harmful things and to get a clean slate or a new beginning. Many of the rituals include an attempt to reconnect with the source, the earth and each other. Of course, our main topic is how this might enhance our health and vitality.

It is well established that there can be a buildup of waste in our bodies. Just how detrimental this waste can become is based on the individual, their lifestyle and eating habits. I believe it is imperative to remove intended waste from the body for two main reasons. The first is that this waste if left inside the body can be reabsorbed into the cells creating a type of poisoning and the second is that the waste is blocking the fresh nutrients as they are trying to enter our cells. I can only imagine putrid waste products being held in the body long past the time for it to be excreted.

Ideally, if one’s elimination is working properly on a daily basis there would be no need for detox. However, we know that is rarely the case. Mainly due to our diet of processed food, lack of water and other nutrients certain waste can collect in our system. This will stagnate in the lymphatic system and back up into the surrounding cells and tissues. The lymphatic system is the principle source of detoxification but unlike the blood circulatory system it does not have a pump such as the heart to insure that it keeps moving along. Our lymph depends on muscle contraction to push this fluid containing dead cells and other cellular debris out of the tissues. If we are active and mobile the chance of lymph draining correctly are greatly improved.

A major challenge is created when we are sedentary, dehydrated and lacking in high quality nutrients. Our hectic lifestyles may not allow for us to focus on this element of health but at some point, I suggest a minimum of every quarter, we should pay attention to do some type of cleansing a detox regimen. This may take the form of a simple dietary shift. It could be a juice fast or just eliminating meat and starches for a short period of time. I do not recommend the use of laxatives in place of a cleansing regimen. Laxative are basically irritants that will cause the colon to empty. The type of cleansing we need will pull unwanted build up from tissues though out the body, vital organs, gut as well as the colon. I will give you my specific recommendations for a total body cleanse in a future post.

The Question I Get Asked The Most https://www.askdrwiletha.com/the-question-i-get-asked-the-most/ https://www.askdrwiletha.com/the-question-i-get-asked-the-most/#respond Sat, 09 Jan 2016 02:16:32 +0000 http://www.askdrwiletha.com/?p=12860 Do you know the question I am asked most often is, “How do you keep your weight in check?” Well, I thought long and hard about this question and I began to reflect over several decades of weight ups and weight downs. I can truly say that I have at some points just reached a limit where I just refused to go any higher on that bathroom scale. My mind was set to think that is It, that’s the limit, I have to stop, Now! It was during these periods that I would usually look around for the latest diet program and get started. This has kept me from just going up and up and up. I guess you could say I was able to reign in the pounds before it got out of hand. However, there seem to be several principles that have emerged in any case.

Number one is portion control. By the way, these are not in any order of importance because they all work together to provide a platform for proper weight control. One image that will always support portion control is to remember, “Your stomach is the same size as your fist.” So you look at your plate, what is stacked on it and compare that to your fist. Ouch! You may have to remove something. A portion of protein is the size of a deck of cards, so you just cannot eat that half chicken at one sitting.

Number two is keep a food diary and be honest to include everything. This way you can look back at your day and you will either feel victorious and proud or you will say I can do better tomorrow. The latest term for this is called “mindful eating,” which simply means you are thinking about the effects of your food and not just the taste appeal. Food is no longer considered a recreation but a means to nourish your body for maximum performance and health.

Number three is make an effort to learn new healthy recipes. We know that much of what we consume is based on habit and tradition but we are now smart enough to realize some traditions and old habits must change. It is very important to remind ourselves of the true purpose of the change. We want to live a long and healthy life and we owe to our loved ones to do all we can to this end. We need to be open to try new foods and to prepare the old ones in new and better ways.

Number four is gain freedom from stereotypical meal planning. God did not ordain any particular food for any time of day or night. (Even McDonald’s knows this. lol) There is no such thing as breakfast food; there is just healthy food and unhealthy food. We need to develop a global view by examining the eating habits of other cultures and tribe. When we do this, we will have a broader idea of how to embrace the healthiest food we can find at any time of the day.

Number five is empower yourself to win. This is a mental, emotional state that we adopt and this is characterized by developing a winning attitude. We must believe that we can achieve our weight management goals and never give up. I will give you more specifics on weight loss strategies in a future post.

Good Health is Wealth https://www.askdrwiletha.com/good-health-is-wealth/ https://www.askdrwiletha.com/good-health-is-wealth/#respond Tue, 03 Nov 2015 01:03:49 +0000 http://www.askdrwiletha.com/?p=12506 How do we determine if we have good health?

Is it simply the absence of disease, diagnosis or symptoms?

We believe that good health is the state of being able to accomplish all that you desire in life without any physical limitation. That means that we can make all those important contributions to our spouse, our family, our neighborhood, and the world at large without any regard for lack of energy, mental sharpness, focus and concentration, or positive mental state. Excuses will have no place in our vocabulary when we have good health. Further we can stand and be strong enough to just say “no” if any activity does not fit into our desired goals and dreams. We each have to find our purpose and unique path in life. This begins with ownership of all aspects of our being including our health. We must recognize and accept that health is created by our own habits, actions and choices. There is no “lightning bolt” theory of health. Every cell in our bodies is designed for greatness and only impeded by one of two things:

#1 Deficiency – Being without some essential nutrient needed for metabolism and

#2 Toxicity – we are taking in something that blocks healing and impedes overall wellness.

One of the goals of this blog is to help us discover a clear path the wellness and embrace a healthy natural lifestyle. Our good health is our wealth because without it we are literally bankrupt in achieving our life purpose.
